After a time of constant rises in the price of electricity , which made the arrival of the bill the most feared moment for many Spaniards, now comes a new way of accounting for electricity expenditure. From July 1, the light will have a different price every hour. That is, there will be 24 different rates in a single day.
The price was based on a quarterly auction
Until now, the system that was followed to stipulate the price was based on a quarterly auction in which the electricity companies intervened.
With this new method, which the Government estimates will mean savings of 4.3% at the end of the month, the amount will be set according to consumer demand at all times.
And how will we know which is the cheapest time zone ? Prices may be known at least in advance and consulted through the Internet on the websites of the Red Eléctrica de España (REE) or the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
These supposed benefits have their negative part
However, all these supposed benefits have their negative part: for the moment, this new way of setting the cost will only affect households that have contracted a regulated rate (TUR) to date and have a smart meter, which shows the consumption and the amount every 60 minutes. Otherwise, the monthly price will be the result of a daily average instead of calculating the exact total.
With all these changes
The electricity companies have chosen to propose annual fixed rates , so that, depending on the power contracted, they establish a closed price per year. Thus, they intend to eliminate the scares in the invoice, since it will be known how much will be paid in advance.
With this simulator you can compare the cost of the new rates according to the company.
